15-Second Brief
Valencia plans to end Harvey Elliott's loan in January. Liverpool are willing to part with the midfielder permanently, with Leeds United as the main contender.

A sudden twist in the career of English footballer Harvey Elliott opens unexpected opportunities in the transfer market for Leeds United. Spanish club Valencia intends to terminate the loan agreement with the 23-year-old midfielder, who is owned by Liverpool.

Last summer, the Merseyside club sent the midfielder on loan to La Liga, hoping to provide him with stable playing time for further development. Despite having made 149 appearances for Liverpool since his transfer from Fulham, most of his playing time has come as a substitute. His previous loan spell at Aston Villa was similarly curtailed, with the Birmingham club intentionally limiting his field time due to a clause requiring a mandatory buy if he reached ten appearances.

The move to Spain has not brought the anticipated breakthrough. Under the management of Javier Aguirre, the midfielder has played just 152 minutes across six league matches. According to Football Insider, Valencia's management is actively exploring options to end the loan by January, which would return the Englishman to his starting point at Anfield.

Spanish football expert Julián Burgos confirmed the inevitability of the split in an interview with the Daily Mail: the player has failed to adapt to the demands of the league and has become a notable disappointment, especially given his status as a product of the Merseyside club. The new sporting director and head coach of Valencia, currently in the relegation zone, plan to reassess the staffing decisions of prior management to relieve the wage bill under the spending cap.

At Anfield, there are no long-term plans associated with the player, and the club is ready to sell the midfielder profitably before his contract expires in 2028. The player himself is unwilling to go on another loan and hopes for a permanent transfer within England. In this context, Leeds United's interest, which has been tracking the midfielder since last summer, becomes a key factor: the club from West Yorkshire is considering a full transfer during the January transfer window.
