Newcastle continue to monitor two midfielders: Gabriel Sara of Galatasaray and Issa Doumbia of Sporting.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, both players are also on Roma's radar, while Newcastle face competition from other Premier League clubs.
Newcastle and Everton ready to offer €25 million for Sara
The 26-year-old Sara joined Galatasaray from Norwich in the summer of 2024 and has since made 101 appearances for the Turkish club, scoring 10 goals and providing 20 assists.
The Brazilian has scored twice and provided five assists in 14 appearances this season.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Newcastle and Everton are already taking steps towards a possible transfer and are ready to offer €25 million.
However, reports from Brazil say Galatasaray are hoping to receive around €35 million and are willing to consider selling the player in January.
As well as the English clubs, Roma and Napoli are interested in Sara. Aston Villa and Brighton were also previously named among his suitors.
Newcastle remain interested in Doumbia
Newcastle's other target remains 23-year-old Issa Doumbia, who joined Sporting from Venezia last summer.
The Portuguese club beat Newcastle and Brentford to the midfielder's signature at the time. However, both Premier League clubs continue to monitor him.
Roma have now joined them and would like to bring Doumbia back to the Italian league as early as January.
A transfer will not be straightforward. The player's contract with Sporting runs until 2031 and his release clause is €80 million.
Newcastle therefore remain interested in both midfielders, but no agreement has been reported for either player.
