Everton manager David Moyes has responded to rumours of a possible move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, saying the club have no plans for January at present.
Rashford returned to Old Trafford last summer after a year-long loan at Barcelona, but has encountered difficulties again.
The 29-year-old Englishman has not scored in eight appearances this season and has missed the past four matches with a thigh injury.
Following his difficult return, Rashford has been named as a potential candidate to leave Manchester United next year. Lisandro Martinez and Joshua Zirkzee are among the other players whose futures remain uncertain.
Everton monitor Rashford but Moyes is in no rush
Everton strengthened their attack in the summer with Tyrique George and Jack Grealish, who joined on loan. The club are nevertheless continuing to consider options for further attacking reinforcements.
According to Football Insider, Everton's hierarchy are discussing a potential deal for Rashford and are open to bringing him in during January.
At his press conference before Friday's match against Coventry City, however, Moyes made clear that there are no concrete plans for the winter transfer window yet.
No. At the moment we don't have any plans for January.
I think the current squad are doing a great job, especially considering how the summer and the transfer window unfolded. The players deserve credit for their performances and their attitude.
We've lost a few games, but we've also won some important ones. So I'm happy with the team and hope we can carry on in the same way.
There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic, given how the players are performing overall. I think we could have achieved more if we hadn't lost some players in the summer.
Moyes explains Everton's inconsistent results
The Scottish manager also said the tightness of the Premier League table makes it difficult to judge teams' positions objectively at this stage.
I think if we'd kept those players, we'd still be among the teams competing for the higher places. We had a dip, but we beat Newcastle the other day.
If we hadn't won, we could be 15th or 16th now – I don't know exactly. But even then, we'd probably only be three or four points behind the leading teams.
So it's very difficult to judge where teams stand in the table right now. All we can do is try to win as often as possible and keep playing the football we've been playing.
Overall, even in the games we've lost, our players have had good spells. Sometimes we've been a little unlucky.
Perhaps we lack the quality at the moment to match some of our opponents, but I hope we can give everyone a fight.
Reports of Everton's interest in Rashford have not been backed up by confirmation of talks between the clubs. Moyes did not rule out winter signings altogether, but stressed that he is currently focused on working with the squad he has.
