22-year-old winger Lukas Risgor is making waves in Danish football after a meteoric rise. From amateur status just two years ago, he now plays in the Superliga, has received his first call-up to Denmark's U21 squad, and harbours dreams of a future with Liverpool or Barcelona.
One of Risgor's standout features is his astonishing speed, clocking in at 37.64 km/h — a figure that rivals the maximum speeds of Kylian Mbappe and even surpasses some recorded performances by the Frenchman.
Intriguingly, Risgor claims he has never specifically trained for speed.
The winger told Flashscore:
I’ve never trained for speed — not with strength exercises or special agility runs, which some say help you get faster. I was just born this way.
Speed has always been a crucial part of my game, and my teammates call me Speedy. Even coaches during my youth football days advised me to just push the ball past defenders and outrun them.
He further elaborated on how he uses his primary advantage on the pitch:
Of course, speed gives me a massive advantage. Whether I’m on the ball or off it, defenders struggle when I’m in front of them.
When a defender is in front of me, I always think: ‘You might be bigger and stronger, but you’ll never catch me.’
Risgor is flattered by comparisons to Mbappe:
It’s incredible to think that I can compete with some of the fastest players in the world. Mbappe is one of the biggest names in football, so I’m proud of such comparisons. It helps draw attention to my performances.
Risgor’s path to professional football has been unorthodox. He wasn't raised in a major club academy and had never been called into Denmark's youth teams. Just two years ago, he played for amateur side Soeby before making a name for himself with Aarhus Fremad, scoring six goals in 13 matches.
In July 2026, Risgor signed a five-year contract with Silkeborg. In his first eight appearances for the club, he netted two goals, which led to his call-up to the Denmark U21 team.
Risgor admitted:
I still can’t believe what’s happened with my career in the last two years. I always believed it would happen one day, but not this quickly.
I think my story shows that you can make it even if you weren’t in a big club's academy from childhood.
The Danish star is now eager to test himself abroad, singling out two clubs in particular.
Risgor stated:
My dream is to join a team from one of the biggest leagues in Europe. My main goal is to one day play for Liverpool or Barcelona.
He had a taste of overseas football when he moved to the youth team of Maritimo in Madeira at 17, but admitted that he wasn’t psychologically ready for life away from home. Issues with salary payments also saw him return to Denmark.
Now, Risgor is focusing on making his mark at Silkeborg and using his time in the Superliga as a stepping stone to one of Europe's elite leagues.
