The Premier League has unexpectedly published the precise schedule for matches during the Christmas and New Year festivities for the 2026/27 season.
Originally, the league intended to confirm broadcast dates and times for December and January (covering Matchdays 13 to 20) only during the week of October 19. However, organisers have now secured the calendar for Matchdays 17, 18, 19, and 20, which will take place from Boxing Day (December 26) to January 7.
In an official statement, the Premier League emphasised:
This decision was made after the league and broadcasters agreed to expedite the selection process for live matches in the UK from Matchdays 17 to 20. This publication gives fans more than three months to plan their trips during the busiest period of the year. The decision follows consultations with the Football Supporters' Association and fan advisory panels from clubs.
The remaining fixtures for November and early December will be confirmed according to the previous schedule. On Boxing Day, December 26, there will be no fewer than seven matches (six more than last season), while just one game will take place on January 1, featuring Leeds against Everton.
Among the key matches to look out for this festive season are Newcastle versus Manchester City on December 26, Aston Villa against Liverpool on December 30, Chelsea facing Newcastle, and Manchester City clashing with Tottenham (both on January 3), as well as Manchester United’s encounter with Newcastle on January 7.
