Chelsea's head coach Xabi Alonso has opened up about the chemistry between Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers, who were seen in a lively debate post their 6-3 triumph over Leeds regarding who was more deserving of the man of the match accolade.
In his remarks, Alonso stated:
It's great to see both of them believing they deserve this reward. Clearly, they enjoy playing for the team and each other, celebrating when a teammate contributes positively. We've expected this synergy and are delighted they've already established a strong connection at such an early stage. Joao also interacts well with them, and that’s one of our strengths.
Alonso pointed out that the off-pitch relationships between Palmer and Rogers significantly enhance their performance during games:
I would say, very much so, as they were close even before they started playing together. We’d been tracking the development of this relationship for a few weeks prior to the transfer. Cole has had a substantial influence, as has Morgan, along with the club. We're thrilled with how it has all come together so far.
The Spanish manager also commended Rogers' quick adaptation to life at Chelsea:
He has adapted very well and swiftly. Acquiring players ready to compete and make an impact was a strategic goal for us. Morgan has certainly been key among them. We expected this, but how well it has materialised is truly impressive. He feels great, enjoys playing football, and is thriving in his interactions with the team.
Latterly, Alonso was asked whether he had helped convince players to join his teams during his playing career.
With a smile, he replied:
Perhaps, but not as much as Cole.
