Inter Milan risk losing out to Atletico Madrid in the battle for Cristian Romero, as the Italians must offload players before making any significant signings.
According to Football Italia, the Serie A champions have reached a verbal agreement with Tottenham Hotspur, with the potential transfer fee set at around £34 million.
However, the deal is currently on hold. Inter have yet to finalise personal terms with the Argentine defender and need to raise funds by selling players. The club is looking to offload Benjamin Pavard, Davide Frattesi, and Cristian Aslani.
Taking advantage of this situation, Atletico Madrid are ready to swoop in. The Spanish side has recently earned some cash from player sales to Aston Villa and Roma, and they are reportedly preparing a £26 million offer for Romero. However, this figure has yet to meet Tottenham's expectations.
Inter's plans have suffered setbacks due to failed deals. Chelsea snatched Marco Palese from under their noses, while Anan Halaili's medical failed to go through.
On the sales front, Pavard is resisting a return on loan, and Aslani has failed to impress during his time at Torino and with Turkish club Besiktas. Noticing potential in Frattesi, Nottingham Forest are circling, while Juventus are keen to offer Nico Gonzalez in exchange.
