Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has revealed who he considers the most undervalued player he has ever shared the pitch with, and that accolade goes to former teammate Bernardo Silva.
The Portuguese midfielder spent nine seasons with the club after joining in 2017 and became one of Pep Guardiola's most trusted players during an era of immense success.
Silva has made more appearances under Guardiola than any other player, playing a key role in various positions, from central midfield to the attacking flanks.
While Silva was highly regarded inside the club, his influence wasn’t always acknowledged beyond the walls of Manchester City.
“I think it’s fair to call Bernardo the most undervalued,” Dias responded when asked about the player he felt deserves more recognition.
“Although there is now a good understanding of everything he has done, and having spent nine years at the club before leaving recently, I feel that especially last season, many people were saying: ‘Oh, he actually did all this’. Before that, it was just: ‘Oh, Bernardo’,” the defender said.
“I feel like people didn’t know how deeply his influence impacted our success, so I think it’s fair to say that he was somewhat undervalued for a long time,” Dias concluded.
