Forward Vinicius Junior has signed a new long-term deal with Real Madrid, committing to the club until June 2032.
The Brazilian has turned down a lucrative offer from Arsenal, who were prepared to make him the highest-paid player in the league.
Real's head coach Jose Mourinho commented on this news following their 2-1 victory over Ferencvaros.
“The most important thing is the extension. Extending the contract is a source of happiness for him, of course, but it’s also a source of happiness for all of us,” the manager said.
Mourinho also addressed Vinicius's physical condition after his performance in the match.
“Vinicius has done very little training. I didn’t expect him to take the ball, run 50 metres with it and score, his legs are still tired and worn out,” he explained.
“He will definitely be in better shape next Wednesday and the following Sunday,” the boss added.
In addition, Mourinho praised the fitness of the team's new signing and former Manchester City player Bernardo Silva.
“He is a very important player,” he began.
“He was another player who was on leave. He’s one of those who completely disconnect from the mental side and does nothing during the break, and he returned with a much lower physical condition that needs developing. But Bernardo is a fantastic player who gives us great ball progression, either playing deeper or in midfield,” Mourinho concluded.
