Former Liverpool forward Michael Owen feels that the club missed out by not securing Jarrod Bowen as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah. He expressed reservations regarding the feasibility of a transfer for Bradley Barcola from PSG.
Last year, the Reds splashed over £400 million, bringing in Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak for more than £100 million each. Despite such lavish spending, the team failed to defend their Premier League title.
This summer, Liverpool has already made moves with the acquisitions of Jeremy Doku and Victor Munoz for less than £90 million combined. Now, the club is reportedly set to invest over £100 million for Barcola.
Meanwhile, Jarrod Bowen opted to stay with relegated West Ham, indicating his desire to help the Hammers bounce back to the Premier League.
"He is undoubtedly very good, but he will come at a steep price. I don't think they are obliged to get him. There are other excellent players out there," Owen said in an interview with GOAL.
"You know what I would have done a couple of months ago if I were Liverpool? I would have done everything possible to sign Jarrod Bowen," he added.
"I can't believe he would be desperately wanting to play in the Championship. It seems to be the case now, whatever he does. I thought he would be a smart move as a replacement for Salah," Owen declared.
"Barcola is clearly a top-class player, but he's going to cost a pretty penny. There are certainly other great players out there. It's definitely a route you could consider, as they absolutely need talented wide players," the former footballer noted.
"Such players are not always available. If he is available and the deal is straightforward aside from the hefty price tag, then yes, I can see Liverpool pursuing that option," Owen concluded.
