Manchester United are highly likely to try to sign a striker on loan in the January transfer window. According to journalist Andy Mitten, the club want to strengthen their attack, but financial restrictions could prevent a permanent transfer.
United failed to sign a back-up striker for Benjamin Sesko in the summer. The club's hierarchy focused on rebuilding the midfield, putting off strengthening the centre-forward position.
The situation has become more urgent because of the Slovenian's injury. United may need a player capable not only of coming off the bench but also of temporarily serving as their first-choice striker.
Danny Welbeck was previously an option for United. However, the club could not meet his financial demands, after which Chelsea entered the race and offered him a two-year contract.
As a result, United were left without an additional striker and must now look at alternatives.
According to Mitten, the club's financial resources are limited. United do not intend to pay a large fee for a new centre-forward until at least the summer transfer window.
A short-term loan is therefore considered the most likely option for January. That approach would allow United to strengthen their attack during Sesko's absence without spending a significant sum on a permanent transfer.
No specific candidates for the position have been named yet. The club are expected to continue exploring the market for a suitable striker.
