15-Second Brief
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola commented on the 2-2 draw with Newcastle in the opening match of the Premier League. He praised his players' efforts but expressed disappointment over chance conversion. The Reds will next face Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola reflected on his team's 2-2 stalemate with Newcastle, acknowledging that they had anticipated a better outcome.

Post-match, he shared his thoughts with Sky Sports journalists, making it clear that the Reds had expected three points from the game.

"That's not the result we wanted... we certainly didn't deserve to lose today," said the Spaniard.

Iraola praised the players for their efforts, adding, "It's a bit unfair that we took the lead early on. Overall, we had the better moments in the game, yes."

He noted the team's struggles to finish chances, particularly in the first half, saying, "Ryan was in a great position to score, and then they punished us on the counter... The substitutes gave us a boost. We feel that with how we play; not everyone will last the full 90 minutes, and today that was the case."

"When you concede two goals, we did have some good phases of possession, but the first goal was harder to defend against because of the pace of their player... for the second, we had numbers to defend but needed to try to win the ball back. In the first instance, it was a great run, and the mistake was not finishing the moment [from Gravenberch]," he detailed.

"I think we need to be more clinical. We were a bit wasteful in the first phase," he concluded.

Looking ahead, Liverpool will aim to get back to winning ways as they prepare to face Nottingham Forest at home at Anfield in their next Premier League outing.
