The independent Premier League referees' committee has unanimously endorsed the referee's choice not to issue a red card to Arsenal defender Gabriel for a kick to the head of Emiliano Martinez during their match against Chelsea.
All five members of the panel concluded that the Brazilian's actions did not warrant a red card or serious foul play.
In an official statement, the committee highlighted:
The committee unanimously supported the referee's decision not to show a red card. Several players were contesting a loose ball on the ground at the time. Gabriel's actions were deemed not to be an act of aggressive behaviour or a serious breach of the rules.
Following the hefty clash, Martinez required on-pitch medical assistance. At the time of the incident, Chelsea led 1-0. However, shortly after the incident, the Gunners equalised, and in the second half, they pushed on to claim the victory.
