Virgil van Dijk responded ironically to a bizarre incident involving Emanuel Emeka during the EFL Cup match against Chelsea. The Chelsea forward collided with the Liverpool captain without the ball and did not receive a card.
The incident occurred in the second half after Emeka came on as a substitute.
The Chelsea forward unexpectedly pushed Van Dijk, even though the ball was nowhere near, and referee Darren England chose not to punish the moment.
After the match, the defender was asked how he explained the young forward's actions.
Van Dijk replied:
Ask him. I don't know.
Then the captain of Liverpool added with a smile:
Maybe he is trying to get into the national team and thought he would act like that.
I don't know. You need to ask him.
If you see him, just ask.
