Tottenham Hotspur have categorically decided against engaging in any discussions with Arsenal over the potential transfer of Cristian Romero.
Insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed that despite Arsenal's inquiries and discussions with the player's representatives, Spurs' hierarchy have no intention of releasing the Argentine to their North London rivals.

- Spurs' Position: The club's board and management have blocked any chance of a deal with Arsenal due to the fierce historical rivalry.
- Atletico Madrid are the favourites: Romero has already agreed terms on a four-year deal with the Spanish side. Their initial offer of €30 million plus bonuses was turned down, but they are preparing an improved bid, close to €40 million (£34.2 million). The mood in Madrid is optimistic about closing the deal.
- Interest from Inter Milan wanes: Inter previously had an agreement with Tottenham, but have failed to come to personal terms with the defender. They also need to sell Benjamin Pavard before moving forward.
Fabrizio Romano reiterated on his YouTube channel that the heated rivalry firmly excludes a move to Arsenal:
Let me clarify one thing. From my information, Tottenham's board, coaching staff, and owners—the three key structures of the club—have clearly decided not to sell Romero to Arsenal. Despite all the rumours, Tottenham have no intention of negotiating with Arsenal because of their enmity. The relationship between the clubs is complicated, and it’s much easier for Spurs to green-light a move to Atletico Madrid.
Romano also commented on the progress of negotiations with other European clubs:
Atletico Madrid is currently the main contender to sign Romero. The player is in talks with them, and Atletico is negotiating with Tottenham. The first offer of €30 million plus bonuses was rejected, but they will return with a new proposal close to €40 million. Atletico are feeling positive.
The Italian insider noted that the possibility of a move to Inter Milan has practically fizzled out:
Inter had an agreement with Tottenham, but they cannot proceed without selling Benjamin Pavard first. Additionally, they still haven't reached an agreement with the player on a contract.
Thus, a move for Romero to Atletico Madrid remains the most likely outcome in this transfer window.
