15-Second Brief
Robert Lewandowski jokingly explained his long-standing refusal to join Arsenal was due to his desire to win trophies, responding to a Gunners fan at an event in the USA.

Legendary Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has given a straightforward answer as to why he has never signed for Arsenal during his career.

The Gunners have been linked with the forward on multiple occasions. Back in 2014, Arsène Wenger admitted he tried to bring Lewandowski to the Emirates before he chose Bayern Munich. Later, in the summer of 2022, Arsenal's interest resurfaced ahead of the striker's transfer to Barcelona, where the Polish international spent several seasons before moving to MLS side Chicago Fire.

At a recent event hosted by media company Barstool Sports, popular Arsenal fan and content creator Zah took a photograph with the forward when a question came from the crowd asking why Robert had never worn the Gunners' shirt despite their long-standing interest.

The Polish striker reacted without hesitation:

Because I wanted to win titles!

When a fan quickly reminded him that Arsenal ended their 22-year trophy drought by winning the Premier League title in the 2025/26 season, Lewandowski was quick to reply:

Well, if I had joined you then, you wouldn’t have had to wait so long for the championship.

The issue of a prolific finisher has long been relevant for Mikel Arteta's team. Despite the signing of Viktor Dyerke from Sporting in 2025, the Swedish forward frequently shares playing time at the top of the attack with Kai Havertz, and the London side still lacks the guaranteed goalscoring of a traditional number nine.
