Opta analysts have published the expected points (xPts) table for the English Premier League, highlighting clubs that are underperforming relative to their created chances.
In fifth place is Fulham, who have fallen short by 3.1 points, although recent victories have alleviated some pressure on manager Álvaro Arbeloa.
Fourth in the rankings is Manchester United. Michael Carrick's side have missed out on 3.7 points, which would only see the club rise to mid-table. Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney agreed with this assessment.
At best, they are a mid-table team.
In third place is Bournemouth, with a deficit of 4.6 points. The team has dropped crucial points in frustrating draws against Newcastle and Brentford.
Sunderland occupies second place with a shortfall of 4.8 points. The team struggles with poor finishing. For instance, Brian Brobbey scored a hat-trick against Manchester City, yet the club still lost 5-3.
The biggest underperformers so far this season are Nottingham Forest, who have missed an impressive 7.9 points. The club's main issue lies in their terrible conversion rate. Relying on Liam Delap in attack has not paid off.
