Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy has reflected on the 1-1 draw with Fulham in the 10th round of Premier League fixtures. He admitted the team were disappointed to drop points but was pleased with their overall performance.
Newcastle went ahead through Murphy in the 80th minute, but Rodrigo Muniz equalised three minutes later. After the final whistle, the Englishman shared his thoughts in an interview with Premier League Studios.
“We're disappointed that we couldn't come away from here with three points. But overall we're very pleased with our performance.
“We've had a tough week and managed to bounce back from it. It was a collective effort: everyone stepped up and contributed to the game,” Murphy said.
The winger stressed that the team had shown character and prevented their opponents from playing their usual game.
“We've always been a close-knit team, and I think we proved that today. We didn't allow Fulham to play the football they like to play. We made the game difficult for them.
“On another day, we could have been 2-0 up at half-time,” he said.
Murphy also expressed disappointment that Newcastle had conceded shortly after scoring.
“It's frustrating to concede after we'd scored, but it's a step in the right direction,” he added.
Despite missing out on victory, Murphy believes the team showed character after a difficult week. Newcastle must now try to carry the positives from this game into their next fixtures.
