Harry Maguire says Sir Alex Ferguson regularly gets in touch with him during difficult times and when things are going well.

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has spoken about his regular personal contact with Sir Alex Ferguson, who has continued to offer him advice and support throughout his career at Old Trafford.

The England international recalled the lasting impression Ferguson made on him in 2011. Maguire was playing for Sheffield United at the time and suffered a serious head injury in the FA Youth Cup final against Manchester United, after which the Scottish manager personally showed concern for his condition.

Speaking to United's official club magazine, the 33-year-old defender said the former manager regularly keeps in touch with him — both during successful moments and through the toughest challenges:

I would have loved to play under him. I speak to him quite often now. I try to talk to him as much as possible and take in as much useful information as I can. He is an incredibly caring person. Every time something goes wrong, he gets in touch with me. And he does exactly the same when things are going really well.

Maguire said Sir Alex regularly reminds him to be resilient, ignore criticism from the media and keep moving forward with confidence.

The defender joined Manchester United from Leicester City in the summer of 2019 — six years after Ferguson retired from management.
