15-Second Brief
Chelsea are forced to sell 16 players from a squad of 41 to meet Premier League registration; Badiashile and Disasi have been dropped from the first team.

Chelsea are looking to significantly reduce their squad size, which currently stands at 41 players. To comply with the 25-man Premier League registration rule, the Blues must part ways with 16 players before the transfer window closes.

The overabundance of players was highlighted in a recent friendly against Juventus, where Chelsea fielded 21 substitutes.

Journalist Nizaar Kinsella has reported on the internal dynamics at the club:

  • Isolated from the first team: Five players — Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Marc Guehi, Caleb Wiley, and Datro Fofana — have been removed from the squad and are training separately as they have been put up for transfer.
  • Missing from the squad: Seven players have yet to return to the team after summer vacations and international duties — Enzo Fernandez, Malo Gusto, Barco, Maxence Lacroix, Morgan Rogers, Henderson, and captain Reece James.
