Chelsea is negotiating for Giorgio Scalvini from Atalanta for £42 million, with competition from Tottenham and Newcastle.

London's Chelsea has entered negotiations to purchase 22-year-old central defender Giorgio Scalvini from Atalanta and the Italian national team, reports The Sun.

This transfer could continue the active campaign of the Blues under Xabi Alonso, who previously completed the transfer of striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton, signing a two-year contract.

Chelsea representatives have contacted Scalvini's camp to discuss personal contract terms. The player himself is open to continuing his career in the Premier League.

However, there is significant competition for the Italian defender: Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also interested. Atalanta's management is not willing to let their key player go for less than £42 million (€50 million).

Giorgio Scalvini has made over 100 official appearances for the Bergamaschi in all competitions and won the Europa League with the club in 2024, earning a reputation as one of the most promising defenders in Serie A.
