Bournemouth's head coach, Marco Rose, expressed his feelings after the Premier League's opening game against Manchester City, which ended in a 2-1 defeat. The German manager voiced his frustration at two late lapses in concentration that denied his team much-deserved points at the Etihad.
The Cherries were tantalisingly close to securing their first-ever away victory against Manchester City but conceded two goals in the final six minutes of the match.
“We are competitors. We came here to win for the first time. We were on the right track for that. We did a lot of good things. Ultimately, given how the game unfolded, to lose in that manner feels rather unfortunate,” said the Bournemouth boss.
“We had two situations. One corner and one moment where we were too passive. The match lasts not 80 minutes, but 90. We need to defend better. It's about finding the right triggers, which we did very well for a long time,” added the German coach.
Despite the defeat, the new Bournemouth manager remained pleased with his side's performance and noted some positives:
“We created situations for counter-attacks, and we scored a truly beautiful goal. It’s all in the details. We can build from this; it’s a good foundation. But we have no points, and we play for points. The plan was good, we just faltered in the final moments. The game never ends here; you need to defend for five or six minutes longer.”
