Reigning Premier League champions Arsenal have encountered significant challenges in the summer transfer market ahead of the 2026/27 season. Mikel Arteta's side has missed out on several key targets to bolster their attacking line.
Missed opportunities with Vinicius Junior and Jeremy Moncu
The Gunners' biggest disappointment came in their failed negotiations for Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior. Arsenal were prepared to splash considerable cash for the Brazilian, but the player leveraged their interest to secure a new six-year contract with Los Blancos.
In addition, Manchester City swooped in to sign 17-year-old winger Jeremy Moncu from Leicester City for £10m. The young talent himself stated that choosing the Citizens was an obvious decision, given the club's stature and trophy haul.
Current signings and attacking deficiencies
So far, Arsenal have added winger Christos Tsolis from Brugge and goalkeeper Illan Meslier. The club is also close to finalising a deal for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
However, Arteta’s squad is clearly lacking depth on the left flank following the departure of Leandro Trossard. Currently, the coach can rely only on the inconsistent Gabriel Martinelli, Reiss Nelson, and nominal right-winger Noni Madueke, while Tsolis is viewed more as a rotational player.
The Gunners have also stepped out of the race for Morgan Rogers, who has joined Chelsea, while Bradley Barcola from PSG is leaning towards a move to Liverpool. With the start of the new campaign fast approaching, Arsenal's hierarchy has limited time left to effectively strengthen their attack.
