Thomas Tuchel has explained why Cole Palmer was left out of the England squad for the November matches. Despite the midfielder remaining a key player for Chelsea and starting every Premier League match, Tuchel opted for other players.
Tuchel selected Jude Bellingham, Morgan Gibbs-White, Eberechi Eze and Josh King as attacking midfield options.
Palmer was left out of the squad along with Phil Foden, Noni Madueke, Nico O'Reilly and Kobbie Mainoo.
Tuchel explained his decision:
We already have enough players in the No 10 position, and we decided to keep those who were at the previous camp.
The impact of all those players was enormous.
We have Josh King as a new player. He can play in all four attacking positions.
That is mainly why we made this decision.
Tuchel stressed that the door to the England squad remains open for Palmer.
His absence has raised questions again, particularly given that the midfielder plays regularly for Chelsea and remains one of the main figures in their attack.
Tuchel had previously criticised the situation involving Palmer after he withdrew from the previous camp because of fitness issues.
Tuchel has now opted to retain a familiar group of players, with the added versatility of Josh King.
