Steven Gerrard criticised Dominic Calvert-Lewin for passing rather than shooting during Leeds' 1-0 win over Tottenham.

Steven Gerrard criticised Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin after their 1-0 win over Tottenham. The former Liverpool captain was frustrated by the forward's decision to pass rather than shoot. Despite taking three points, Daniel Farke's side continue to struggle to convert chances.

Leeds secured an important home win over Roberto De Zerbi's side, ending a poor run in early Saturday matches. Substitute Noah Okafor scored the only goal.

Before his introduction, the hosts had created chances but had been unable to take them.

Why didn't Calvert-Lewin just shoot?

One incident particularly frustrated Gerrard. Calvert-Lewin found himself in a promising position in front of goal but chose to pass to Ao Tanaka rather than finish the attack himself. The Japanese midfielder fired well over the bar.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Gerrard made no secret of his frustration:

Why on earth didn't Calvert-Lewin just shoot? The ball was on his stronger foot, and it was the first really good chance we'd seen. He didn't have a single shot on target all day. Just hit it, have a go!

Leeds win, but attacking problems remain

Farke's side have scored more than once in a Premier League match only once this season. The game against Tottenham again showed how difficult Leeds are finding it to score.

The hosts had 16 shots, but only four were on target against Antonin Kinsky. Another five attempts came from outside the penalty area, none of which forced the goalkeeper into action.

Calvert-Lewin himself had three shots, with only one on target.

The forward's decision to look for a team-mate rather than shoot could suggest a lack of confidence.

The win over Tottenham gave Leeds an important three points, but the team need to make better use of their chances to improve their results further.
