Sergej Jakirovic said Hull must learn from their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal and keep fighting for a win.

Hull head coach Sergej Jakirovic reflected on his team's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

He said his players needed to learn from the match but was pleased with how they competed against one of England's strongest clubs.

Martin Odegaard scored the only goal in the 72nd minute. Speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the final whistle, Jakirovic said matches like this were important for his team's development.

“We need to learn lessons from this game. I think our team is still developing. It is a very big experience for us to compete at this level, especially against Arsenal,” the coach said.

Jakirovic said Hull had tried to press Arsenal aggressively and force them forward, but that it was difficult to counter the quality of their passing.

“We have to keep going in the same way and fight. We tried to press them and force them forward. They tried to play short passes. It is not easy because you have to use a lot of energy, and every player in their team can beat you with a pass.

“I am very pleased. We need to keep working because every game is a big lesson for us,” Jakirovic said.

The coach also discussed the only goal, saying his team had been unlucky but could have dealt better with the second ball before Arsenal's scoring move.

“We were just unlucky with the goal. Maybe we could have done better with the second ball before we conceded,” he said.

Jakirovic also recalled previous home matches in which his team had led but had not always managed the situation well.

“Sometimes I feel sorry because we had three home games in which we were leading. Maybe we need to be smarter in those situations, but it is all experience,” he added.

Jakirovic said his team must now do everything they can in their upcoming matches to secure a win.

“In the next matches, we must do everything to get at least one win,” the Hull coach said.
