Chelsea winger Mikhail Mudrik is poised to leave the club on loan this summer. The Ukrainian international has made it clear he wants to stay in the Premier League this season.
After missing a substantial part of the last two years due to suspension, Mudrik has returned and made a few appearances for Chelsea during pre-season training. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has praised Mudrik for maintaining his form during this challenging period, even with limited playing time.
Given the presence of young talents like Morgan Rogers, Estevao Willian, Geovany Quenda, and Jamie Gittens, who are all ready to feature on the flanks next season, Mudrik's chances of regular game time at Stamford Bridge appear slim.
Journalist Ben Jacobs discussed the player's future on the Market Madness podcast, noting that one possible loan destination could be Strasbourg. However, it seems that those close to Mudrik might prefer other options that involve staying in the Premier League or clubs offering a chance for European football.
“Yes, there is one loan spot available at Strasbourg. So that is one option, but it strikes me that people close to Mudrik would rather see him in the Premier League or perhaps with other clubs that may emerge at the last minute and provide him with European football. The key for Mudrik's season could be playing every week, which makes Coventry a possible option given their long-standing interest. But if you look at a club like that, which might struggle for survival, playing in such a context may not help Mudrik unless he is guaranteed regular minutes,” Jacobs stated.
It appears that the spot at Strasbourg may well be reserved for a younger player. Meanwhile, Chelsea already has a preferred destination in mind for Mudrik.
The Blues are keen on sending Mudrik to Coventry, where he would have the opportunity to work once again under Frank Lampard following their brief time together in West London. This move would offer Mudrik a great chance to earn regular minutes for the newly-promoted side, bringing his much-needed pace to the counter-attacking play.
