Chelsea are set to receive a hefty sum from the transfer of their former player Diego Moreira to Italian side Milan.
Moreira, who spent just 45 minutes on the pitch for the Blues in the League Cup, was loaned out to Lyon before eventually being sold to Strasbourg. It was there that he truly came into his own as a top-wing talent.
His development caught the eye of Milan, who have signed him for a fee of £61 million. Chelsea sold Moreira for a fraction of that amount but cleverly included a sell-on clause that will benefit them financially.
Journalist Peter Rutzler revealed the financial particulars of the deal:
Chelsea will benefit from the sell-on fee in the transfer of Diego Moreira, who has joined Milan from Strasbourg. The record sale for Strasbourg guarantees them €51 million, plus an additional €16 million in bonuses. Chelsea is set to earn at least €5 million from the sell-on clause.
Interestingly, this transfer marks the highest sale in Strasbourg's history, surpassing the exit of Valentino Barco to Chelsea earlier this summer.
