Michael Owen believes that Manchester United made a mistake by not signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The striker recently joined Leeds United on a free transfer after leaving Everton, despite United previously showing interest in him.
Instead, the club decided to splash out on Benjamin Sesko, with the transfer costing £73.7 million.
Now, Calvert-Lewin is hitting his stride, showcasing some of the best form of his career. Former England forward Michael Owen has praised the 29-year-old's performances.
He has always struggled with injuries, but when fit, he’s a nightmare for defenders. Given the lack of central strikers in recent years, I thought, with all due respect to Leeds, that a bigger club might take a gamble and bring him in as a backup option. Even Manchester United could have at least looked at him. A couple of clubs were watching him, but Leeds put words into action and secured him, and he’s repaying their faith.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke is also thrilled with his new striker, believing that Thomas Tuchel should consider calling up the player for the England squad.
He’s a tough player to contend with, a real handful for any defender. He’s in peak physical condition, showing real confidence and rhythm, while also benefitting from a strong team around him. Dominic is a key player, and if he continues in such form, he’s definitely among the best strikers in the league. This is the best league in the world, and that speaks volumes about what I think of him as a player.
