Granit Xhaka criticised Sunderland after their 3-1 defeat to Coventry, stating the team repeats the same errors weekly and fails to execute even basic tasks.

Granit Xhaka voiced his frustrations following Sunderland's 3-1 loss to Coventry. The team captain stated that the issue is no longer about individual incidents; the players consistently repeat the same mistakes, thereby undermining their chances of success.

This season has proven to be significantly more difficult for Sunderland compared to the last.

A year ago, Regis Le Bris’s team finished seventh in the Premier League and qualified for European competitions, but now they find themselves battling against relegation.

Xhaka himself has not been showing the level of performance that he demonstrated last season, when he attracted interest from Chelsea.

Following the defeat to Coventry, the midfielder did not look for excuses:

It’s hard to accept. We prepared well and came here with belief, but if we don’t do what we constantly talk about, we have no chance of winning matches.

Particularly, Xhaka is unhappy that the team is failing in the simplest aspects of the game:

We are making too many mistakes on our part. If we don’t execute the basics, we can forget about everything else.

Every weekend we repeat the same errors, and we are punished for them each week.

The captain also acknowledged the frustration of the fans:

It’s tough for the fans, I understand their discontent. We feel the same way.

We need to stick together and believe in each other. We need everyone, and I believe that we can get out of this situation.

After the defeat, pressure has also increased on Regis Le Bris, whose future at the club is now in question.
