Former footballer Paul Merson has sharply criticised Manchester United's transfer policy, stating that manager Michael Carrick cannot resolve issues beyond his control.
Following their defeat to Chelsea (0-2), the Manchester club currently sits fourth from bottom in the Premier League. Merson believes the team could fall into the relegation zone before their match against Coventry City on December 5. However, he is confident that the club will ultimately remain in the top flight.
I don’t see them getting relegated, absolutely not. But this is not Manchester United.
Merson also stated that Lisandro Martinez would never have played for the team again after his red card if Sir Alex Ferguson were managing the club. He pointed out that the team critically lacks squad depth for such severe punishments.
Merson criticised the management for signing forwards before addressing significant issues in defence.
There’s no quick fix. Everything was done wrong at the top. In the first window, they went for the attacking line, but it proved inadequate. You can’t build a house on a puddle.
