Newcastle United's head coach, Matthias Jaissle, expressed optimism regarding Anthony Elanga's injury, hoping it won't be too serious as the team prepares for their upcoming clash against Hull City this Saturday.
The 24-year-old was absent from the squad for Monday's 4-1 defeat to Leeds United.
Jaissle provided insight into why Elanga is set to undergo an MRI scan to assess the severity of his injury.
We don’t have exact information on Anthony at this time. I just spoke to him, and I believe he’ll be heading for the MRI in the next 30 minutes, so we should know more soon. We’re hopeful that it’s nothing too serious.
Jaissle acknowledged that Elanga's absence would be a blow, particularly given his impressive start to the season, but he emphasized that there are options available in the squad.
It’s disappointing after the brilliant start he and the team have had. We were definitely counting on him; his qualities are a key strength of our squad given the style of play we wish to implement. But we want to stay positive, even if he is sidelined.
