Former France midfielder and football pundit Patrick Vieira has strongly commented on the rumours surrounding Enzo Fernandez's potential departure from Chelsea.
The expert has criticised the vice-captain’s behaviour and urged manager Xabi Alonso to let the player go if Manchester City are willing to meet Chelsea's asking price:
Enzo Fernandez is a world-class midfielder, but he isn't irreplaceable. No player can be above their club. Chelsea have been too lenient with him, but the situation is spiralling out of control.
His public comments about wanting to move to Real Madrid are a massive disrespect to the club. Now that Enzo Mareska wants to reunite with him at Manchester City, I believe Xabi Alonso shouldn't be begging him to stay.
Chelsea already have excellent midfield options: Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers. I’m confident that Morgan Gibbs-White, Alex Scott, or Adam Worthington can step up and fill Fernandez's shoes in London.
If Manchester City are ready to pay the price Chelsea are asking, he should be sold. As vice-captain, he ought to be setting an example.
Now is not the time to make him feel important. It's time to set boundaries, so he doesn't think he is bigger than the club, even if he ultimately stays.
