Liverpool attempted to sign Inter midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic during the summer transfer window. According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Merseysiders wanted to utilise Curtis Jones' move to the Milan club as part of a potential deal for the Serbian.
Jones left Liverpool at the end of the summer after rejecting a new contract and moved to Inter. During negotiations, the English club explored the possibility of bringing Stankovic in as part of the same deal, but the Italians dismissed this option.
Interest in Stankovic also came from Brentford, who made a €40 million offer for a full transfer. However, Inter turned this down as well, preferring to consider a loan for the player rather than a permanent sale.
Stankovic spent last season at Brugge, impressing in the Champions League before Inter exercised their buy-back option. However, under coach Cristian Kivu, the Serbian has yet to see much playing time.
Reports suggest that Stankovic himself is not keen on leaving Inter. That said, his situation could change come January if his playing time doesn't increase—at which point the club may reassess the idea of a loan.
