Representatives and agents have approached Liverpool's hierarchy with a proposal to sign 23-year-old centre-back Raul Asensio from Real Madrid. The English club is showing interest in the potential deal as they aim to strengthen their defensive line.
A change in Asensio's status came about with the arrival of Jose Mourinho as head coach of Real.
The Portuguese manager personally spoke with Asensio, indicating that while he respects the player's talent, he does not see him in his long-term plans.
With a significant shake-up in defence and the signing of players like Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, and Denzel Dumfries, Asensio's chances of making the lineup have dwindled considerably. Real's hierarchy is prepared to sanction a transfer if a suitable offer is made.
Player's position and Liverpool's interest
Although Real is open to considering a transfer, the deal is far from finalised.
Desire to stay: Asensio himself is not keen on leaving the Madrid club, opting instead to fight for his place at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Support from Iraola: Liverpool's head coach Andoni Iraola is a fan of the defender's game. The player's versatility, being able to operate both centrally and on the right flank of defence, is particularly appealing to the Merseysiders.
