Virgil van Dijk has featured in a new LFC Original documentary titled ‘Captains’, where he discusses the honour of leading Liverpool.
The Dutch defender is entering his fourth season as the club's permanent captain, a role he took over from Jordan Henderson after his departure in 2023.
“Every time, no matter where we are, leading the lads onto the pitch is an incredible feeling. I will never, ever take that for granted,” the defender expressed.
“The values of the club – obviously, you guys know them better than I possibly still do – it’s crucial to have that connection.”
“Understanding the city, what the people of Liverpool are all about is key.”
“All those people out there and fans across the globe expect us to deliver every three or four days, no matter what.”
“And it is nice, to be honest. I embrace it a lot. I really enjoy feeling that responsibility.”
“You need to make sure everyone understands what we’re aiming for. Everyone needs to know that when we go through tough times – and we do go through them – we must stick together.”
