Tottenham have made it clear they will not be sacking Roberto De Zerbi, even after a challenging beginning to the season. TEAMtalk reports that the club hierarchy is firmly behind the 47-year-old Italian and is not currently looking at alternative managerial options.
Following their home defeat to Aston Villa, Spurs find themselves languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table. With just two points from five matches, it's the first time in 18 years Tottenham have been at the foot of the table at this stage of the season.
De Zerbi's record since taking over shows four victories in 14 matches, giving him a win rate of 28.57%. However, those in charge believe it’s too early to make any definitive judgments.
An insider at the club stated:
There’s nobody better than Roberto to rectify the situation. We knew from the outset it wouldn’t change overnight, even with our summer outlay. He is still the right manager for Tottenham.
De Zerbi took the reins at the tail end of last season when Spurs were battling against relegation, ultimately aiding in their Premier League survival. The club has since revamped the squad significantly over the summer and became one of Europe’s biggest spenders, yet these changes have yet to reflect positively in their performances.
Following the loss to Villa, the manager expressed his frustration regarding the team's performance.
According to sources, the hierarchy shares his dissatisfaction with the players and believes the main issue lies in their current form, rather than in the management’s approach.
Consequently, there will be no search for a new manager during the forthcoming three-week international break. Tottenham are hopeful that De Zerbi can utilise this time to address the team’s issues and turn their fortunes around when the season resumes.
