Cole Palmer will miss the upcoming England matches. According to ESPN, the Chelsea midfielder has sustained a minor muscle injury that will prevent him from joining Thomas Tuchel's squad.
Having missed out on a spot in the England squad for the World Cup, Palmer was called up again after a lively start to the season and was expected to play a crucial role in the September fixtures. Now, the 24-year-old's return to the national team has been postponed.
England are set to face four matches in the Nations League: two against Spain and Croatia, as well as two fixtures against the Czech Republic.
Palmer’s absence might not be the only concern for Tuchel. The availability of Marcus Rashford and Cobie Mainoo is also in doubt after they both featured for Manchester United against Fulham on Sunday, with Rashford subbed off in the 77th minute and Mainoo in the 80th.
Additionally, there are worries regarding Tino Livramento. The Newcastle defender reported discomfort following Friday’s training session. Head coach Matthias Jaissle revealed Livramento underwent an MRI and the club is awaiting further updates on his condition.
Tuchel is already facing a host of injury problems, with Ben White, Dan Burn, Dean Henderson, Reece James, John Stones, and Jed Spence all set to miss out on international duty.
