Head coach Thomas Tuchel has shared his thoughts on whether he worries about club priorities overshadowing international duties.
The German tactician emphasised that the door is open for everyone, but missing a training camp provides an opportunity for rivals to claim a starting position:
First and foremost, we have complete trust in our players. Secondly, every single one understands that if you miss the camp and someone else performs well in your position, the competition will go into overdrive. The doors to the national team are always open, but you must be available and give your all in training. When you do that, it counts. Right now, those worries aren't on my list of concerns. I'm not built that way. It's just the way it is.
Since my arrival at St. George's Park on Monday, I have fully focused on the staff. When the players walked in on Tuesday, all my attention shifted to them – they deserve it fully. There are no threats, distrust, or talk of punishments. Everything unfolds naturally.
In fact, we have the opposite situation right now. Everyone is literally eager to join the squad. Just ask our captain Harry Kane: he has played more minutes than anyone for both club and country, yet he is thrilled to be here while others take 7-10 days off. He wants to be with the team. That is a true role model and represents the atmosphere surrounding us right now.
