Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke has reflected on the 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League.
The forward stressed that he doesn’t see the result as anything like a victory. In the first half, the Londoners were confident, largely controlling the play and creating several chances. After the break, though, Tottenham were reduced to ten men but still managed to earn a point.
"I wouldn't say it feels like a win. We played very well in the first half, dominating for most of the time and should have been ahead by a couple of goals. To go down to ten men and still get a result shows our spirit and character," said Solanke.
He added that the team had faced similar situations before when trailing, but their reactions had not always been ideal. This time, they were determined to rectify the situation.
"We've been in positions where we've been behind before and didn't always respond as we should have. This time we wanted to change that. Going a goal down and being a man down, it would have been easy to give up and stop fighting for the win," the forward noted.
Solanke also admitted he could have scored more than once in the match.
"Today I probably should have scored three times. I was looking to find the net as much as possible, and in the end, I got one, so I'm grateful for that," said the striker.
Discussing his red card, Solanke confessed he hadn’t reviewed the incident yet.
"Everything happened so quickly that I haven’t seen the replay. It just shows the fighting spirit of the team. Everyone is really keen to do the right thing and show the necessary passion," he explained.
The forward emphasised that Tottenham still have a lot of work ahead, but he praised the mentality and character of his teammates.
"We have plenty to improve on. But the mindset and character were at the highest level. We will sort everything out, and the results will come very soon," concluded Solanke.
