Tottenham midfielder Mateus Fernandes shared how he learned English after moving to England. Watching the popular series 'Prison Break' helped him a lot.
Adjusting to the Premier League was tough for the young player. After moving to Southampton, he hardly spoke any English.
'The first season at Southampton was the hardest for me because I was living alone in another country, with a new language,' the footballer explained.
'I didn't speak English and there was nobody there who spoke Portuguese or Spanish.'
'Last season I started taking lessons, but then, after three or four sessions, I said: 'This isn't for me'. I just talk to the guys. I'm trying to learn, I watch movies and series.'
'I watched 'Prison Break' again, for the first time in English. Even series in Spanish I try to watch in English to understand the accent,' confessed the Portuguese.
'Sometimes it can be difficult with the guys from Newcastle, Liverpool or Scotland, but I think it's important to feel connected with teammates and establish contact with fans and staff.'
