Josko Gvardiol explained why he decided to tie his future to Manchester City.
The defender has signed a new five-year contract. He was heavily pursued by Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, but the player chose the English club.
The 24-year-old Croatian is confident that the arrival of a new head coach gives everyone a chance to prove themselves. A place in the starting line-up is not guaranteed to anyone.
“I’m happy to sign a new five-year contract,” Gvardiol told Manchester Evening News.
“I’m still 24, and with the new manager, everyone has to fight for their position; no one is safe.”
“I think there will be a lot of changes, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens at the start of the season, how we will play. Every day is a new challenge and a new opportunity.”
“It’s hard to say, but it’s something inside you when someone new comes in; you just want to show the best you can,” the player concluded, reflecting on motivation.
