Rio Ferdinand has expressed high hopes for the upcoming transfer of Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa to Arsenal. The former England international believes this addition could further bolster Mikel Arteta's team in their title challenge.
Ferdinand stated:
I think this is a fantastic signing. He's a player at the peak of his powers who knows exactly what he brings to the table. No frills — just a very, very good Premier League defender.
£51 million plus add-ons is an absolute steal in today’s market. At 28, he's got at least four to five years of solid performances ahead of him, and he can cover both central and right-back positions.
The ex-footballer also highlighted Konsa's versatility as particularly valuable for Arsenal, especially given the injury troubles faced by Jurriën Timber and William Saliba:
There's Ben White, who seems fit at the moment, but he's had his injury issues too. Timber hasn't always been available, and Saliba has his own concerns. Konsa will provide excellent depth. He can step onto the pitch and perform straight away — no questions asked. His versatility and reliability at this level make this transfer a real gem.
If Arsenal manages to sign him, it only increases my belief that they will win the title again. This is a very sensible and quality acquisition.
Konsa is set to undergo a medical before the deal is finalised. Meanwhile, Arsenal is gearing up to kick off their title defence with a match against Coventry City.
