Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has launched a stern critique of Luke Shaw, calling on the club to find a replacement during the current transfer window.
Although the 31-year-old Shaw has had a stable season and featured in all of Manchester United's Premier League matches, Parker believes the player's level no longer meets the ambitions of the club.
In an interview with Betarades.gr, Parker voiced his doubts about Shaw's defensive and attacking capabilities:
If the plan is to use Patrick Dorgu on the attacking flank, then the club desperately needs a new left-back, as Luke Shaw is not good enough.
They really need a mobile and agile full-back who can cover the entire flank and defend reliably.
Luke Shaw cannot run, defend, or attack — so what’s his purpose? Dalot will also always be a concern when playing on the left.
If Manchester United do not venture into the transfer market for a new left-back, Parker advises the coaching staff to consider homegrown talent — 19-year-old Harry Amassa, who has impressed on loan at Sheffield Wednesday:
I saw Harry Amassa play for Sheffield Wednesday, and before his injury, the fans were thrilled with him. Maybe it’s time to give him a chance? The club should be better at nurturing such young players and giving them a proper run in the team, rather than just a few substitute appearances.
