15-Second Brief
Arsenal have entered discussions with Galatasaray regarding a transfer for 27-year-old forward Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian's name was mentioned while negotiating the transfers of Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri to the Turkish club.

Arsenal have engaged in talks regarding a potential marquee signing for their attacking line as the summer transfer window draws to a close. The Telegraph reports that the Gunners are considering a move for 27-year-old Victor Osimhen, currently plying his trade at Galatasaray.

Manager Mikel Arteta is on the lookout for attacking reinforcements while Gabriel Jesus continues his gradual recovery from injury. Despite Victor Dierkeresh's impressive performances last season — netting 21 goals in 55 appearances — Arsenal are keen to secure another top-class striker.

Transfer discussions and player inclusion

Osimhen's name emerged during discussions between Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, and Galatasaray representatives regarding two players from the North London outfit.

  • Gabriel Martinelli: The Turkish club has reportedly made a €45 million (£38.4 million) bid for the 25-year-old Brazilian winger.
  • Ethan Nwaneri: Arsenal proposed 19-year-old Nwaneri for €40 million (£34.1 million) as negotiations progress steadily. The midfielder enjoyed a successful loan spell at Marseille last season.

During these discussions, the availability of Osimhen also came up, piquing the interest of both clubs.

Why Osimhen instead of Alvarez?

While Arsenal's top target has been Julián Alvarez from Atletico Madrid, the Spanish side is currently holding a firm stance on their player, having rejected a substantial €100 million (£86.7 million) offer from Barcelona.

Given the circumstances, securing a deal for Osimhen would be considerably more straightforward due to the mutual interest between both clubs. The Nigerian forward, who has scored 59 goals in 74 appearances for Galatasaray and played a pivotal role in their back-to-back title wins, is open to a move to North London.

Just two years ago, Osimhen was on the verge of a Premier League move with Chelsea exploring a transfer, but ultimately he ended up in Istanbul when Galatasaray bought him for €75 million (£64.8 million). Now, the 27-year-old striker has a fresh opportunity to test himself at the Emirates.
