Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed the call-up of young goalkeeper. Mike Penders will join the team in Hong Kong.
This comes after Robert Sanchez suffered an injury. The Spaniard missed the friendly match against Tottenham in Sydney due to a minor issue. Teddy Sharman-Lowe took his place in goal.
After the match, Alonso provided an update on Sanchez's health. The coaching staff decided to err on the side of caution with their goalkeeper.
«Robert has a minor injury, nothing serious, but not fit for today», — said the Chelsea manager.
The Spanish coach is unsure if the goalkeeper will play in the next friendly match.
«We will have to wait until next week. We need to assess his condition almost every day, but today there was no point in risking», — added Xabi.
As a result, it was decided to invite Penders to the next stage of the pre-season tour.
