Chelsea legend John Terry believes Arsenal are the front-runners for the Premier League title this season. He feels Xabi Alonso's side is not yet ready to compete on level terms with the reigning champions.
Former Arsenal player Theo Walcott asked Terry which of the two clubs he thought would finish higher this season.
Terry responded:
Unfortunately, it will be Arsenal.
The former Chelsea captain admitted that, after a decent start, his team has struggled for consistency:
We started well and, by the way, gave you a good game.
But since that match, our results have been unstable. I think that's how it will be for our season.
I still hope for a top-four spot, but I believe we will need a couple more years before we can truly fight for the Premier League title.
Yet, Terry feels that Arsenal currently have a window of opportunity to achieve sustained success:
I’ve said for a while now that you have the chance to start dominating the Premier League.
Arsenal have won four of their first five matches this season and sit second in the table, three points behind leaders Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have managed just seven points from five games, placing them 10th. According to Terry, a more realistic aim for Alonso's team at this stage is to return to the top four.
