Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes that Chelsea could emerge as a serious threat to his former club in the Premier League title race. Despite their underwhelming tenth-place finish last season, Xabi Alonso's side has a significant edge — they won't be distracted by European commitments.
Wright shared his thoughts:
I think Chelsea will be in the mix if Alonso gets them off to a good start and tightens up their defence. They've brought in some experienced players that they've been missing for a while. Without European distractions, they could find their rhythm.
Among teams he expects to surprise, Wright specifically highlighted Nottingham Forest, managed by Oliver Glasner, praising their strong squad and successful transfer activities.
Wright is also anticipating a significant step up from Tottenham:
They only have one game a week now, and the squad has improved considerably. They might still need a goal-scorer, but I expect them to move significantly up the table.
As for Arsenal, Wright views them as the pre-season favourites, but he hopes the club will bolster their squad before the transfer window closes.
