15-Second Brief
While Arsenal celebrates victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield, other Premier League clubs have added some rather dubious trophies to their cabinets. Among them are the Emirates Cup, Boila Cup, Orange Trophy, and the exhibition Super Cups in Sydney and Indonesia.

The Community Shield often faces criticism for its exhibition status, yet against the backdrop of five other summer trophies contested ahead of the season, it holds a solid place.

Five pre-season cups this summer

  1. Emirates Cup: Arsenal lost their own trophy to Borussia Dortmund, going down 2-3. Goals from Ethan Nwaneri and Victor Diekersch were not enough to save the Gunners from defeat on home soil.
  2. Orange Trophy: Newcastle triumphed over Valencia at the Mestalla with a score of 2-1, thanks to a double from Yoane Wissa. The match was marked by a harsh foul from Jose Luis Gaia on Anthony Elanga, which resulted in a red card for the Spanish defender.
  3. Boila Cup: Manchester United overcame Leeds United in Dublin via penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time, with goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Brenden Aaronson. Leeds' decisive miss came from James Justin.
  4. Sydney Super Cup: Tottenham secured the trophy in Australia, defeating Chelsea in the final. A late goal from Richarlison sealed the victory for Spurs, despite Kevin Danso's second-half dismissal.
  5. Indonesian Super Cup: Chelsea lifted their pre-season trophy in Jakarta, winning 3-1 against AC Milan, thanks to a brace from Joao Pedro and a goal from Moises Caicedo. The loss prompted Ruben Amorim to put seven players up for transfer upon returning to Italy.
