Manchester United fans have launched a public campaign against the club's chief executive Omar Berrada amid the team's struggles under Michael Carrick. Social media has exploded with archival posts from the executive dating back to 2012 and 2013, which fans claim display his 'intense hatred' for the club.
In various fan forums, supporters have openly accused INEOS's leadership of appointing someone to a key position who seemingly despises the Red Devils. While these posts are legitimate and have been publicly available since his appointment in January 2024, the uproar has reignited due to the lacklustre start to the season: United have only mustered four points from their opening four Premier League matches, throwing away a two-goal lead against Brighton and crashing out of the League Cup.
In February 2012, Berrada was openly cheering against United during a match with Chelsea, celebrating their 2-0 advantage. He also expressed joy when Newcastle thrashed United 3-0. The following year, he revisited the iconic 1999 Champions League final and controversially claimed that Bayern Munich deserved to win far more than Sir Alex Ferguson's team.
Additionally, he shared an article lamenting United's decline. His previous role, where he ascended through the ranks at Manchester City to become the director of football operations for City Football Group, further infuriates fans. He was eventually lured to Old Trafford by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The discontent amongst supporters is also fuelled by the presence of former City personnel within the club's hierarchy. The past week has been disastrous for United: a humiliating home defeat in the derby against ten-man Manchester City and a shocking 3-2 collapse against Brighton have turned Berrada’s old tweets into a perfect rallying cry for the fans.
